Saturday Cruise

Everything in life is somewhere else, and you get there in a car.
~E.B. White, One Man's Meat, 1943

I had my first driving lesson today. Honestly, I never really cared much about cars, how to drive them, or whatever it is other people find so fascinating about cars. If it wasn't for the fact that I am the only 21 years old in the universe (okay, at least in my social circle) without a driving license, I would prefer being chauffeured around for the rest of my life. hihi:-)
I guess that's peer pressure for you.

So, I did enjoy the experience behind the wheel. Apparently to get the real thing moving is much easier than handling bumper cars or one of those race cars at game arcades.
I DESPISE bumper car because all it does is ram
into other cars despite my godly patience in maneuvering it. I never figured out the civilized way of driving a bumper car, so I made a point to stay away from them.
Now that I have known the joy of a REAL, 'flesh and blood' car, I would take on any go-carting or car bumping challenge any
day (kununla)..haha

Anyway, the best part was : I had fun and I learned something.
cliche but, good enough 4 me:)

Driving is not the only milestone I achieved this week, ice-skating is another.
Let's just say that I need more practice because body
balance is not, and never have been one of
my talents.

Nevertheless,
2009 is all about breaking away from established habits ,
it's about taking chan
ces,
it's about treading on an unfamiliar path an
d see where it leads you..

Right now,
I foresee a thinning purse and annoying aching joints..

In the long
run,
I will look back and not ask "what if?"

So Far Oh, So Good!

Everywhere, my heroes are winning and that gives me another reason to smile today.

A hero has faced it all: he need not be undefeated, but he must be undaunted.

# Roger Federer crushed his QF opponent in 3 at the Australian Open. Lost his No.1 ranking and Wimbledon crown last year, but he NEVER fades to the background. Go Roger!!

******

# Manchester United crushed WBA 5-0 and record an 11th consecutive clean sheet which elevated Edwin Van Der Sar's minutes of clean sheet beyond Petr Cech's 1025 minutes. We are the EPL, European, and World champions. We have the World's Best Player playing for us, and We own the BEST defensive record in EPL. No arguing with facts, yes?

******

Like I said, so far so good:)

KL, A Love Story

"Unless each day can be looked back upon by an individual as one in which he has had some fun, some joy, some real satisfaction, that day is a loss."

Yesterday was another round of impromptu outing, initiated of course, by Kiko. Girlfriend always seems to come up with a plan for outing at the last possible moments. But I end up tagging along anyway, despite not getting much sleep due to the Asian Lit take home test. Boy O' boy, I could only imagine Mdm. Adzura's reaction when she reads my answers. It wasn't the best effort, but I tried.

A half-assed try for that
matter.

Anyways..

We went to see 'Underworld: The rise of the Lycans' at MidValley's GSC. It was an okay movie, predictable, The Cullens are hotter that the Underwold vampires and despite THE bod, Lucian lacked hotness. Or maybe dude just doesn't look good with all that crazy hair and beard covering his face. My head was swimming with fishes after the movie. Damn! that's what sitting two rows from the screen could inflict on one's sorry head.

***
After the movies, we went round and round, entering shops and boutiques randomly. Didn't buy anything though since the last two shopping spree have effectively damaged my bank account. Lots of loves goes to Daddy Dearest for his generosity to pay for my driving lesson. In my defense, I WAS going to pay for it, but then I found out about the Jason Mraz concert this March,

aannddd...

I AM GOING TO MY FIRST CONCERT THIS MARCH!!
Now, if only the allowance somehow, miraculously comes out before 13th Feb, I'm definitely buying a ticket to Rihanna's concert..(so that means Jason's will be my second..hihihi~
~prays hard~

Moving on:-)..we walked to The Gardens, spied on a cute summer dress at Ylang Ylang. Discovered a "Jessica" pendant being sold at The Robinsons. Awww:-).
Dropped by at the Borders, bought Harper's Lee "To Kill A Mockingbird". This book has been on my wish list for sometime now. Glad to have it finally.
This is somehow ridiculous because I have TONS of other important and compulsory readings to do, and YET yours_truly stubbornly decided that priority goes to less important -but fun- novels.
Seriously, Shakespeare is a turn-off. It's nothing personal, it's just the language:-)
But for academic sake, I shall persevere (n_n)/

More Pearly-Whites..

~Right after the movie :-)

What a performance this was. They are award-winning acrobats from China, brought in especially for CNY.

Ah, The Gardens.

Chillin' 8 Baskin' Robbins. The ice-cream is as awesome as its price:)

Looking forward to an eventful (hopefully!) week ahead. Happy Chinese New Year, people!
Be safe and have a grrrrreat break!!!

Always Left Out

Perfect. Just perfect!.
Manchester United recently announced the tour dates for their Asia Tour 2009 and (yeay!!) Malaysia is on the list!
Then all the excitement, relief, and silent screaming gradually disappear when it dawned on me that I won't be in Shah Alam when 29th of July descends. The semester ends in May,
which means that I'll be in KK from May onwards, probably slaving away at some school for practicum..
which means that I'll be a SEA away from my red warriors
which also means that I'm going to miss the ONE event that defines my whole life as Manchester United supporter.
This is so unfair!!!!
I can't wait for another 5 frickin' years so that I can save enough to fly to Old Trafford and watch a home match LIVE.
I want to be there at the stadium, cheering for the team that I have supported with absolute loyalty since..like forever.
I want to be part of the crowd singing/chanting/screaming Glory Glory Man United.
I want to see Ryan Giggs the legend in flesh because he probably won't be playing much longer.
I want to experience the magic that is Manchester United.

I

REALLY
.
REALLY

want to see them.

My 2009 is officially ruined :-(
Excuse me, I need to go and satisfy this incredible need to sulk and indulge in self-pity.
*vomits annoyance*

Iron & Wine

Have you watched Twilight? Remember that haunting song near the end?
I can't seem to get it out of my head.
It's not a LOVE song.
I don't get what's it about. The lyric doesn't make sense. At least to me.
Since I'm in no mood delve deep and figure out hidden metaphor and whatever disturbing deeper meanings that are embedded in the song, I'm
content with just humming and singing along.

I was a quick wet boy, diving too deep for coins
All of your street light eyes wide on my plastic toys
Then when the cops closed the fair, I cut my long baby hair
Stole me a dog-eared map and called for you everywhere

Have I found you
Flightless bird, jealous, weeping or lost you, american mouth
Big pill looming

Now I'm a fat house cat
Nursing my sore blunt tongue
Watching the warm poison rats curl through the wide fence cracks
Pissing on magazine photos
Those fishing lures thrown in the cold
And clean blood of Christ mountain stream

Have I found you
Flightless bird, grounded, bleeding or lost you, american mouth

Big pill stuck going dow
n..

See what I mean?
.
.
Oh, found and stole this sexy Twilight Picture from Vanity Fair.

Unleash your 12-year-old soul and appreciate hotness when you see one.

Sorry can't help it.@_@

Vintage Findings

Nostalgia:

sentimental recollection: a mixed feeling of happiness, sadness, and longing when recalling a person, place, or event from the past, or the past in general

I’m a pack rat.

I never throw anything away. My room is packed with old stuff from god knows when. So I decided to clean ‘em up and classify them into either “useless” or “useful” category, with the former going straight to the trash bin. I started with the little boxes under the study table..found old birthday gifts, cards, scented candles..and..this

.

.

.

.

***

18th Birthday card from Dedz, Elvie, Niza, and BB. The biggest birthday card I ever received. Just so you girls know, the card still gets me all teary-eyed..hihi.

***

Going through the dusty boxes, it feels like going down the memory lane..retracing the steps taken, re-living the years gone by….this got me feeling all nostalgic and sentimental..

My high school student card. Notice the hideous hair and large forehead?

My first English novel bought at a book fair. Some lame college love story.

I still have this Eminem poster on my door. Never had the time to remove it.

A few books that I sneaked out borrowed’ from the maktab’s library.

Diskettes and floppy drive…. Even these survived

***

In the end, I didn’t throw anything away.

Cannot bring myself to throw anything away.

Those are old memories, the witnesses of my past.

Now I don’t have to worry about forgetting,

I’m surrounded with them.
